At Penny Black, we are constantly striving to reduce our impact on the planet, so we are always on the lookout for suppliers who can help us achieve that.
Giftwrap is clearly an area that can have a big impact on the earth's natural resources, so let's take a look at how we are trying to provide you with the best selection of giftwrap options that won't cost the earth.
Our giftwrap is produced by Stewo, who are committed to implementing production standards that protect both humankind and the environment in a responsible way.
Using recyclable raw materials, Stewo's production processes are fuelled by hydropower, a very efficient, environmentally-friendly form of power generation.
Excess energy from the printing presses is used to heat their buildings, too, making efficient use of an otherwise waste product.
All Stewo products, including our range of wrapping paper, gift bags and voucher wallets are FSC certified. This is a status awarded by the Forest Stewardship Council, an internatonal, not-for-profit organisation, which promotes environmentally friendly, socially acceptable and economically sustainable forest management.
Like Penny Black, Stewo are also working towards cutting their C02 emissions wherever possible, with the goal of counteracting human-made global warming.
Although some giftwrap products still feature plastic wrapping, such as rolls of wrapping paper, Stewo is committed to reducing or eradicating the use of plastics and we are proud to support them on that journey.
The Mindful Giving range uses only recycled materials and is fully recyclable itself, making it the ideal option to wrap gifts in an eco-friendly way. The paper can be put in home recycling, uses no plastic and is biodegradable, so you can have peace of mind that it is a more sustainable solution to giftwrapping.
Again, whilst this range may feature plastic wrapping, this will be changed as soon as is practicable and we as a retailer will continue to push Stewo, as well as all of our other suppliers, to make changes in packaging that reduce the effect on the planet.
We're also keeping up the pressure on our suppliers to tip the balance in favour of more eco-friendly products than not that are on offer.
Change starts with small steps, close to home, and we take our environmental responsibility seriously at Penny Black. Want to know more? Why not check out Penny Black's Guide To Going Green here - we're constantly reviewing it to make sure we keep our customers up to date with changes.
